Enciende una luz…

Antes de mudarnos a Los Ángeles y de iniciar esta iglesia, el Señor nos habló a través de la canción de Marcos Witt: “Enciende una luz, Y déjala brillar, La luz de Jesús, Que brille en todo lugar, No la puedes esconder, No te puedes callar Ante tal necesidad Enciende una luz en la oscuridad”

En ese momento sentí que mi llamado se hizo claro: el Señor quería asociarse con nuestra familia para encender una luz en un lugar oscuro, tal como lo dice Mat. 5:13-16 »Ustedes son la sal de la tierra. Pero ¿para qué sirve la sal si ha perdido su sabor? ¿Pueden lograr que vuelva a ser salada? La descartarán y la pisotearán como algo que no tiene ningún valor. »Ustedes son la luz del mundo, como una ciudad en lo alto de una colina que no puede esconderse. Nadie enciende una lámpara y luego la pone debajo de una canasta. En cambio, la coloca en un lugar alto donde ilumina a todos los que están en la casa. De la misma manera, dejen que sus buenas acciones brillen a la vista de todos, para que todos alaben a su Padre celestial.”

No sabía cómo sería esto, ni cuál sería ese lugar oscuro, pero me sentí convencido de que había sido llamado a dar mi vida junto con mi familia para ser una luz en la oscuridad. En los meses posteriores el Señor abrió puertas que yo no hubiera esperado y poco a poco reveló muchos detalles de nuestra asignación; al cabo de pocos meses nos encontramos viviendo en un país extranjero en lo que podría considerarse uno de los lugares más oscuros del mundo: Los Ángeles, CA.

A medida que pasaba el tiempo, la ocupación y las dificultades me hicieron perder el enfoque de lo que Dios quería hacer con nosotros. Entonces, un día nos volvió a hablar y, a través de un amigo profético y me advirtió: “Netz, o empiezas tú o encontraré a alguien más que lo haga”. El temor del Señor se apoderó de mí en ese momento y supe que tenía que actuar. Ahí me comprometí a caminar en obediencia, aunque lo que Él me pidiera pareciera aterrador. Decidí creerle al Dios que me llamó más que a las mentiras e inseguridades a las que me había acostumbrado a escuchar. De esa simple obediencia, nació la iglesia Houses of Light con la simple visión de cumplir nuestra asignación: hacer brillar la luz en los lugares más oscuros.

A medida que nos acercamos a la temporada navideña, miramos a Aquel que fue el primero en entrar al mundo para hacer brillar una luz en la oscuridad. Aquel de quien las Escrituras dicen que es la luz: “La luz brilla en las tinieblas, y las tinieblas nunca la pueden apagar”. (Juan 1:5) Él es quien venció el poder del pecado y de la muerte y ahora vive en nosotros, quien no sólo nos rescató del pecado, sino que nos llama a ser sal y luz de la tierra así como Él lo es.

Cómo ves, el llamado a ser una luz en el mundo no sólo es para mí, tu pastor, sino que en realidad es un llamado para todos los que invocan el nombre de Jesucristo. No estamos llamados a escondernos, sino a salir al mundo y hacer brillar Su luz para que todos la vean. Cuando escuchamos sobre este llamado, algunos de nosotros podemos ver imágenes de evangelistas conocidos o incluso publicaciones apasionadas en las redes sociales que afirman el señorío de Jesucristo, pero estas no son las únicas formas en que podemos asociarnos con Jesús para ser luz en el mundo.

1 Pedro 4:10 nos dice: “Cada uno, según el don que ha recibido, utilícelo para servirse los unos a los otros, como buenos administradores de la multiforme gracia de Dios…” Esto significa que cada uno de nosotros tiene un don que puede usar para mostrar quién es Dios a través de lo que somos y lo que hacemos. Pedro nos da un ejemplo de lo que esto significa en el siguiente versículo: “el que habla, como quien habla palabras de Dios; el que sirve, como quien sirve por la fuerza que Dios da, para que en todo sea Dios glorificado por medio de Jesucristo. A él pertenecen la gloria y el dominio por los siglos de los siglos. Amén…”

Si estás leyendo este correo electrónico, perteneces a esta familia de creyentes que está comprometida a vivir este llamado. En Houses of Light hemos decidido ser un pueblo de simple obediencia, que no escondemos nuestra luz debajo de nuestra cama de comodidad, sino que elegimos obedecer a Jesús cuando Él nos llama a ser la luz del mundo.

Cada uno de ustedes está dotado de una forma u otra, y ahora que el año llega a su fin, te animo a que descubras tus dones y los uses. No dejes que se desperdicie lo que Dios puso en ti, no esperes más ni dejes que el miedo te impida obedecer al Señor. Si no sabes cuáles son sus dones, comienza a servir y participa en las actividades diarias en nuestra comunidad, te sorprenderá lo mucho que puedes brillar, no sólo por tus habilidades sino por la gracia de Dios que nos faculta para hacer cosas mucho más allá de nuestra capacidad natural. ¡Solo es cuestión de decirle sí al Señor y Él se encargará del resto! Romanos 12:6a “Teniendo dones diferentes, según la gracia que nos ha sido dada, usémoslos…” ¡Creemos que el año venidero será un año de crecimiento del Reino de Dios en medio de nosotros y todos somos parte de él!

Así que hoy te insto a que le preguntes al Señor: “¿Dónde quieres que sirva? ¿Cómo puedo activar mi don o mis dones para el bien de mi iglesia, familia y comunidad?” El miedo y la timidez no son tu porción, a cada uno de nosotros se nos ha dado la valentía para levantarnos y ser un miembro activo del cuerpo de Cristo. Piensa en cómo sería tu vida si decidieras dejar de escuchar la voz del miedo y empezar a creer las palabras que Dios ha hablado sobre ti.

Before Houses of Light church existed, before we moved to Los Angeles, the Lord spoke to my heart unexpectedly, the following lyrics gripped my heart:

“Turn on a light
and then let it grow bright
Jesus’ light
in every place it shines
There’s no way it can hide
There’s no point being shy
You see, there’s such need
So turn on a light
And let it be bright.”

At that moment, it felt like my calling became crystal clear: The Lord wanted to partner with my family and me to turn on a light in a dark place. I didn’t know what this would look like, or where that dark place would be, but I felt convinced that I was called to give my life to being a light in the darkness.

In the months after hearing this song, the Lord slowly unveiled many details of my assignment, and soon enough I found myself living in a foreign country in what could be considered one of the darkest places in the world: Los Angeles. As time went on, insecurity and inadequacy constantly whispered in my ear, prophesying failure and preaching doubt, I wasn’t sure God had the right guy for

the job. Then one day He spoke again, and through a prophetic friend He said the words, “Netz, either you start or I will find someone else who will.” The fear of the Lord took hold of me At that moment and I knew I had to act. At that moment I gave the Lord my “yes” and committed to walking in obedience, even if what He was asking of me felt terrifying. I decided to believe the God who called me more than the lies and insecurities I had grown used to heeding. Out of that simple obedience, the church Houses of Light was born with a simple vision to continue this heavenly assignment: to shine a light in the darkest places.

As we head into the Christmas season, we look to the One who was the first to enter the world to shine a light in the darkness. The one whom Scriptures say is the light – “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” (John 1:5) He is the one who defeated the power of sin and death and now lives in us, the One who not only rescued us from sin, but calls us to be the salt and light of the earth just like He is:
“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:14-16

So you see, the calling to be a light in the world does not just belong to me, your pastor, but it is actually a call for everyone who calls upon the name of Jesus Christ. We are not called to hide or cower, but to go out into the world and shine His light for all to see. When we hear of this calling, some of us can see images of street evangelists or even passionate posts on social media that claim the lordship of Jesus Christ, but these are not the only ways we can partner with Jesus to be light in the world.

1 Peter 4:10 tells us “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace…” This means each one of us has a gift we can use, a way we can display who God is through who we are and what we do. Peter gives us an example of what this means in the following verse: “whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen…”

If you are reading this email, you belong to a family of believers that is committed to living this calling, it’s even in our name, Houses of Light. We have decided to be a people of simple obedience – ones that do not hide our lights under bowls or under our beds, but instead choose to believe Jesus when He calls us the light of the world. Each of you is gifted in one way or another, and as the year comes to a close, I charge you with this: discover your gifts and use them. Don’t let what God put in you go to waste, don’t wait any longer or let fear hold you back from obedience to the Lord. If you don’t know what your gifts are, start to serve and participate in everyday activities in our church community and even in our families, you may be surprised just how brightly you can shine, not because of your abilities or skills but because Jesus is that generous with us.

It’s actually the grace of the Lord that empowers us to do beyond what we could even imagine for His glory, so everyone can do this. It’s just a matter of saying yes to the Lord, and He will take care of the rest! Romans 12:6a “Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use

them…” We believe that the coming year will be a year of increase of the Kingdom of God in our midst, and all of us are part of that!

So I urge you today to ask the Lord, “Where do you want me to serve? How can I activate my gift or gifts for the good of my church, family, and community?” Fear and timidity are not your portion, but each of us has actually been given the courage to rise up and be an active member of the body of Christ. What would your life look like if you chose to stop listening to the voice of fear and began to believe the words God has spoken over you? Even as this year is coming to an end, I want to remind you that it’s never too late to start. Now is the time to do the things we haven’t done before, so we can go places we’ve never been before! I know you are capable of doing the good work God has set up for you to do, and what’s more is God has entrusted you with good gifts because in His kindness and mercy He created you in Christ to be able to use them well (Eph. 2:10). Don’t waste another day or opportunity to enter into action, now is the time to shine a light in a dark world, and we can do it together!
